Craft Fairs and Christmas Markets

It’s September, and we’re nearing Christmas market season. The markets usually start in November, with new ones every weekend until right before Christmas itself. Craft fairs and markets can be quite intimidating for new crafters and sellers, but they require certain skills the same as selling online does.

Some things to focus on learning are salesmanship, product display and adaptability. All of these can be trained. Some people have natural talents for one or more, while others need to work at them. The author of this post definitely needs some work on all of the above! 🙂

In the time leading up to November we will be writing posts on how to ace the Christmas markets, but in the meantime I want to hear from you. Post in the comments, or send Victoria a convo on Etsy. Let us know how you cope with fairs and what your best tips are, and you may be featured in a future post!

I have recently started doing craft fairs and have done 3 so far with varying degree of success. I remember thinking as I got all my items to sell ready that a table isn’t that big for everything I wanted to display. The Internet is a great source of inspiration and the suggestions were go up. Shelving and display units are expensive and I wasn’t sure if craft fairs were for me so I started looking around my house for possible things to use for displaying. I now have 2 small cupboards a table and some shelving which i thought looked pretty good on the day. I use old wine glasses to support the shelves on. I have enjoyed the craft fairs I went to so have just signed up for another 8.

Oh wow, that’s really inventive. I love that, especially the wine glasses. 🙂 I’m glad you’re getting along with them so well that you’ve kept doing them. 🙂

Great idea – I’m hoping to do my first fair in mid-October so if I do I’ll share my experiences! 😸
